Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson has taken the ‘next step of leadership’

Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly said during Wednesday’s media session that Everett Golson is “taking the next step of leadership.” The 21-year-old Golson was banned from South Bend in May 2013 for cheating on a final exam and he wasn’t readmitted to school until roughly six months later. Brawnier and weighing 200 pounds, the 6-foot Golson trained with quarterback guru George Whitfield last winter and is now reportedly more polished and disciplined in the pocket. Able to run the option and launch the ball from all angles, Golson is the ideal athlete to operate Brian Kelly’s unpredictable, spread-attack. “He’s … Continue reading

New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is in a ‘good spot’ to miss the season finale

ESPN’s Adam Schefter says fragile New England Patriot Rob Gronkowski remains in a “good spot” to start Week 1 when the team travels to Miami Gardens to play the Dolphins on September 7. The 25-year-old Gronkowski, who penned a six-year extension worth $54 million in June 2012, suffered a concussion, and a torn right ACL and MCL on December 8 versus Cleveland. Dez Bryant and the Dallas Cowboys are ‘up in the air’

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport says electric playmaker Dez Bryant and the Dallas Cowboys have been making strides negotiating a long-term deal. However, after extending Tyron Smith’s contract earlier this month, it’s “up in the air” if Dallas can manage to make the 25-year-old Bryant one of the sport’s highest-paid wide receivers in 2015. Bryant signed a five-year pact worth $12.05 million roughly three months after being taken 24th overall in 2010. Set to pocket $1.78 million in salary this autumn, the 6-foot-2, 218-pound Bryant is an absolutely menacing physical force who overwhelms defenders with his strength, size and speed. Born … Continue reading

Oakland Raiders quarterback Matt Schaub will start in East Rutherford

Oakland Raiders quarterback Matt Schaub was diagnosed Monday with tendinitis in his throwing elbow. The 32-year-old Schaub, who should heal with rest, will start when Oakland travels to play the New York Jets on September 7. Oakland acquired Schaub from Houston in exchange for a sixth round pick in this past May’s draft. Schaub, a two-time Pro Bowler who was the league’s premier passer in 2009, has tossed 130 touchdowns, against 84 interceptions, for 24,254 yards since debuting as an Atlanta Falcon in 2004. Although Schaub remains an adequate signal-caller, Derek Carr will lead the Raiders by October. The 23-year-old … Continue reading

Sam Bradford is finished as a St. Louis Ram

St. Louis Rams quarterback Sam Bradford tore his left ACL in Saturday’s 33-14 win over the Cleveland Browns at FirstEnergy Stadium. The 26-year-old Bradford suffered the identical wound in a loss to the Carolina Panthers on October 20. Bradford underwent the knife to repair the ligament roughly a month later in November. Taken first overall out of Oklahoma in 2010, Bradford and the Rams agreed to a six-year deal worth $78 million a few months after the draft on July 30. Owed approximately $27 million through the end of the 2015 season, the 2010 AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the … Continue reading
