The Jacksonville Jaguars will land a wide receiver in next weekend’s NFL Draft.

Jacksonville Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell said Friday that the team is not “counting on” wide receiver Justin Blackmon.

“(Justin’s) not something we’re counting on,” Caldwell said. “It’s something that would be a relative surprise. I haven’t gotten a lot of updates from the league on where he’s at or from Justin, to be honest with you.”

The 24-year-old Blackmon, who served a four-week ban for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy last April, was suspended indefinitely on November 1.

Before encountering more issues, Blackmon shined on the gridiron and caught 29 balls for 415 yards and a touchdown in four games last autumn.

It’s long been evident that the native Oklahoman is a troubled kid who needs help.

Blackmon was charged with aggravated driving under the influence two months after being taken fifth overall out of Oklahoma State in April 2012.

The talented youngster was previously pinched in 2010 on a misdemeanor DUI complaint in Dallas, Texas.

In addition to battling booze, Blackmon had groin surgery in July and needed to be escorted off the sideline for trying to incite a brawl during an August exhibition contest.

Jacksonville finished 4-12 and sported the league’s most anemic attack.

When mentally and physically healthy, Blackmon is a speedster capable of spreading the field and moving the chains.

Dismissing Blackmon’s athletic abilities and feel for the position, the sick Jaguar must get better and tackle alcoholism.

With the third pick in next weekend’s draft, the Jaguars should take Teddy Bridgewater or Johnny Manziel.

Either Bridgewater or Manziel would boost Blackmon’s production.

Unfortunately, without successful detoxification, Justin Blackmon’s destined to drown in “The River City.”
