With Top Rank’s Bob Arum noting that the month of October is filled with Chinese holidays, shopworn pugilist Manny Pacquiao will instead battle either Mike Alvarado or Brandon Rios in November at a venue in Macau.
Many insiders expected the 34-year-old Pacquiao (54-5-2, 38 KOs) to throw fists with Juan Manuel Marquez for a fifth time this autumn.
However, the 39-year-old Marquez (55-6-1, 40 KOs), who knocked Pacquiao onto Queer Street in December, has decided to challenge Timothy Bradley for the WBO welterweight belt on September 14.
Meanwhile, the 26-year-old Rios (31-1-1, 23 KOs) suffered a unanimous decision loss to the 32-year-old Alvarado (34-1, 23 KOs) in their March rematch.
Considering how savagely the 39-year-old Marquez (55-6-1, 40 KOs) ended the “Fighter of the Decade” for the 2000s by the BWAA, Pacquiao’s flunkies will carefully select the opponent they deem least dangerous.
Ultimately, regardless of whom the faded boxing legend meets, Manny Pacquiao has no business entering the squared circle again.
