Marty Mornhinweg could make Chris Johnson a ‘productive’ Jet

Johnson, who has averaged 4.6 yards per carry, raced a cheetah in a National Geographic documentary.

According to the New York Daily News, running back Chris Johnson and Gang Green enjoyed a “productive” meeting this afternoon.

The 28-year-old Johnson, a three-time Pro Bowler who earned the 2009 rushing crown, was clipped by the Tennessee Titans on April 4.

Since getting drafted 24th overall out of East Carolina in 2008, the 5-foot-11, 203-pound Johnson has only missed one game and amassed 7,965 yards and 50 touchdowns on the gridiron.

Johnson, who completed the 40-yard dash in 4.24 seconds, also caught 272 balls for 2,003 yards and eight scores over 95 contests as a Titan.

New York owns 12 picks in May’s draft and, after cutting Santonio Holmes, Mark Sanchez and Antonio Cromartie, remain well below the salary cap.

Therefore, general manager John Idzik has the resources to partner CJ2K with the bruising Chris Ivory in Gang Green’s backfield.

Grounded by the league’s 29th ranked offense, the Jets finished 8-8 and failed to qualify for the playoffs for the third straight season in 2013.

If handled properly by Marty Mornhinweg, Johnson and the 6-foot, 222-pound Ivory would ideally complement each other and form a solid tandem.

In regard to their aerial assault, provided Idzik nabs capable receiving threats between May 8 and May 10, the Jets may be preparing for takeoff.

Although not worthy of a long-term deal, expect Chris Johnson to dazzle as a Jet this autumn in the ugly swamps of Jersey.
