A bitter feud between the two legendary wrestlers first erupted when a 43-year-old Flair claimed to have banged Miss Elizabeth.
With Flair repeatedly saying “she was mine before she was yours,” an incensed 37-year-old Savage persuaded WWF president Jack Tunney to grant his reinstatement.
Upon having the ban lifted, the man named by WWE as the greatest Intercontinental titlist ever demanded to scrap Flair.
Happily accepting the challenge, the 6-foot-1, 243 pound Flair, a 2008 WWE Hall of Fame inductee, continued taunting the “Macho Man” and promised to release nude photos of Elizabeth following a successful defense of the belt.
Finally meeting in the squared circle, the 6-foot-2, 237 pound Savage gained control from the outset and badly bloodied the “Nature Boy.”
Thanks to the help of a steel chair, brass knuckles and the constant interferences of “executive consultant” Mr. Perfect, Flair seized the momentum and placed Savage into the dreaded Figure-Four Leglock.
After the hold was broken, Flair viciously chopped Savage’s chest while looking at Elizabeth and shouting “this is for you baby!”
At this point, more than 18 minutes into the clash, “Macho Man” countered and surprised Flair with a pinfall attempt that won the match and earned him a second championship reign.
Despite an oddly abrupt ending, “Macho Man” Randy Savage and “Nature Boy” Ric Flair produced one of the more memorable bouts in WrestleMania history in excess of two decades past this week.by
