Retiring as a player on June 3, the 40-year-old Kidd agreed to a four-year contract with Prokhorov on Wednesday.
“The point is that there are people who are born coaches,” said Prokhorov, 48, listed by Forbes as the 69th richest individual on Earth. “It is known that Jason Kidd was in fact a player-coach on many teams. And he has been training for a long time. He has played under many coaches, and he has always wanted to be a coach.”
Despite averaging 12.6 points, 8.7 assists, 6.3 rebounds and 1.9 steals over 1,391 games with four organizations, Kidd doesn’t have any experience on the sideline.
However, realizing the need for help, the future Hall of Famer is wisely recruiting Lawrence Frank as a lead assistant.
Perhaps Kidd is one of the “people who are born coaches.”
Regardless, “the point is that” Mikhail Prokhorov showed brass balls hiring a completely unproven Jason Kidd to run the Brooklyn Nets.by
