In an effort organized by a group named Volume 12, Seahawks fans will attempt to become the loudest crowd on record when their team hosts the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday at CenturyLink Field in Seattle.
Guinness Book of World Records currently lists the noisiest audience as one that reached 131.76 decibels in March 2011 at a Turkish soccer game in Istanbul.
“It occurred to me late one night, like at 3 in the morning, that there was an opportunity to do something really cool by breaking the world record,” said former defensive end Joe Tafoya, 34, who played for the Seahawks from 2005-2006.
“I didn’t even know how to do it so I went online and saw the Guinness site and filled out an application and they responded relatively fast and accepted the application. The goal would be to put a noise meter somewhere that is visible for the fans to see and then get an attempt and watch the needle peak past 131.77 decibels.”
Unfortunately for Seahawks supporters, San Francisco (11-4-1) narrowly won the NFC West and ultimately qualified for Super Bowl XLVII in February.
With both organizations winning last weekend and looking destined to dominate this autumn, Seattle’s home opener against the 49ers will be an extraordinarily raucous event.
Although the 49ers are an absolute powerhouse, expect Wilson and the Seahawks’ 12th man to lead Seattle to victory.
Once triumph is secured, “watch the needle peak past 131.77 decibels” roughly 72 hours from now in The Emerald City.by
