24-years ago last Saturday on December 1, 1988, legendary Oklahoma State University running back Barry Sanders punctuated one of the greatest individual seasons in college football history by winning the Heisman Trophy award over Rodney Peete and Troy Aikman at the Downtown Athletic Club in New York City. Memorable sports moment of the week – Barry Sanders retires from the NFL

13 years ago this Saturday on July 28, 1999, legendary running back Barry Sanders shocked the Detroit Lions and the National Football League by faxing a retirement letter to his hometown newspaper, the Wichita Eagle, in Kansas.
