Rather than seeking to become Ukraine’s president in 2015, former WBC heavyweight titlist Vitali Klitschko announced Saturday that he will run for mayor of Kiev this May.
The 42-year-old Klitschko (45-2, 41 KOs), one of the primary figures of the Euromaidan protests, and other opposition leaders successfully forced the resignations of President Viktor Yanukovych and his cabinet members in February.
“Dr. Ironfist,” who led the UDAR (Punch) party to a surprising third place finish in the autumn of 2012, also oversaw the release of detained demonstrators and political prisoners.
A natural commander with the strong backing of his countrymen, the 6-foot-7, 247-pound Klitschko has endorsed the candidacy of businessman Petro Poroshenko.
Despite supporting Poroshenko, Klitschko is clearly the legitimate face of Ukraine.
As a future Hall of Fame prizefighter, Vitali Klitschko has already created a more powerful career outside of the squared circle.by
