The Honda Classic is one of the most prestigious events on the PGA Tour, attracting some of the best golfers in the world to compete for a coveted title and a generous prize purse. The 2023 edition of the tournament promises to be as exciting and thrilling as ever, with a lineup of top players and a challenging course that will test their skills and stamina.
Scheduled to take place from February 27 to March 5, 2023, the Honda Classic will be held at the PGA National Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The resort boasts a championship golf course that has been the venue for the tournament since its inception in 1972, and which has undergone several renovations and improvements over the years to keep up with the changing demands of the sport.
One of the highlights of the Honda Classic is the “Bear Trap”, a treacherous three-hole stretch on the back nine that has been the downfall of many a golfer. Named after golfing legend Jack Nicklaus, who redesigned the course in 2002, the Bear Trap consists of the 15th, 16th, and 17th holes, which require precise shots over water and around bunkers to avoid disaster.
The defending champion of the Honda Classic is Matt Jones, an Australian golfer who won his second PGA Tour title in 2022 by holding off a strong challenge from Aaron Wise and Brandon Hagy. Jones finished with a score of 12-under-par, one stroke ahead of Wise and two strokes ahead of Hagy, after a nerve-wracking final round that saw him make crucial putts and avoid costly mistakes.
Other notable players who are likely to feature in the 2023 Honda Classic include former champions such as Rory McIlroy, Rickie Fowler, and Justin Thomas, as well as rising stars like Collin Morikawa, Viktor Hovland, and Will Zalatoris. Each of these players has the talent and the experience to win the tournament, but they will need to be at their best to overcome the challenges posed by the course and the competition.
