Could the Titans Trade Star RB Derrick Henry to Texans, Their Division Rival and Killer?

The Tennessee Titans have been one of the most exciting teams to watch in recent years, thanks in large part to the incredible performances of their star running back, Derrick Henry. Henry has been an absolute monster on the field, consistently putting up huge numbers and punishing opposing defenses with his combination of size, speed, and power.

However, there have been some rumors swirling around the NFL that the Titans may be considering trading Henry this offseason. While this may seem like a shocking move at first glance, there are a few reasons why it could make sense for Tennessee.

First of all, Henry is coming off a season in which he carried the ball a whopping 378 times, the most in the league by a wide margin. While he was certainly effective with those carries, there is a legitimate concern that all that wear and tear could catch up to him sooner rather than later. Running backs have notoriously short careers in the NFL, and the Titans may be thinking that they could sell high on Henry while they still can.

Another factor to consider is the salary cap. Henry signed a four-year, $50 million contract with the Titans before the start of last season, making him one of the highest-paid running backs in the league. While he certainly deserves that kind of money based on his performance, it does put a strain on the Titans’ finances. Trading Henry could free up some much-needed cap space for the team to use on other areas of need.

So, where could Henry end up if the Titans do decide to trade him? One team that immediately comes to mind is the Houston Texans. Despite being division rivals, the Texans have struggled mightily against Henry in recent years. In their two matchups against the Titans last season, Henry rushed for a total of 347 yards and 3 touchdowns. Houston’s defense simply had no answer for him, and adding Henry to their own roster would be a huge boost.

Of course, there are a lot of factors that would have to fall into place for this trade to happen. The Titans would have to be willing to part with their star player, and the Texans would have to be willing to give up enough in return to make it worth Tennessee’s while. Additionally, Henry himself would have to be on board with the move, which may not be a given.

Overall, the idea of the Titans trading Derrick Henry is certainly a surprising one, but it’s not completely out of the realm of possibility. With his punishing running style and impressive track record, Henry would be a valuable asset to any team in the league. Whether or not he ends up in Houston remains to be seen, but it’s certainly a possibility worth considering.
